Our History and Philosophy
In the early 1930’s, a group of students at Loyola University School of Dentistry decided to form an organization that would merge their hardworking values, passion toward professional excellence and pride in their Italian Heritage to form the Arcolian Dental Arts Society. Named after Giovanni D’Arcoli, the fifteenth century science professor at Bologna and Padua, whose many noted chapters in medical textbooks detailed the formation of dental disease, D’Arcoli is credited for being the innovator of using gold leaf to restore teeth.
Over 80 years later and still going strong, the Arcolian Dental Arts remains active by promoting excellence in the form of continuing education, awarding annual scholarships to dental students and being a supportive presence in the community all while providing social opportunities for forming lasting professional relationships over dinner in some of Chicago’s most noted Italian restaurants!
We invite you to explore our website and always welcome new members.
The Arcolian Dental Arts Society invites all Third and Fourth year dental students of Italian lineage to apply for the “Arcolian Dental Arts Society Scholarship.” This scholarship is to be awarded to the individual who has exhibited exemplary effort and professionalism during the past years of their dental education.
